Lisa
Harris's Classic Elements “bas-relief” ceramic
tile line began ten years ago, evolving from her enduring
interest in both ceramic history and architectural ornament.
Her home-base of Chicago has provided a wealth of inspiration
for her tile designs as well as vessel work.
Hand-made
from white earthenware, tiles are press-molded or cut from
slabs, individually decorated and then glazed. Lisa Harris's
Classic Elements offers either a hand-painted treatment
to achieve an ancient, time-worn textural quality, or a
single glaze for a more traditional look, The color palette
is muted and includes sage green, ochre, terra cotta, lapis,
and burnt umber, with bright jewel tone accents. Kitchen
backsplashes, mirror or fireplace surrounds, and decorative
bathroom tiles are some of the uses for this highly original
line.
Tiles
offered in this versatile collection cover a range of size
and color: small dots/rosettes, mosaics; 2x2's up to 10
x10 decos; 2x6 and 4x8 borders; and liners of rope, bead,
and molding. Images range from classic urns, leaves, and
Corinthian capitals to fruit, veggies, bugs, and flowers.
Field tile, from 2x2 to 6x6, with texture, color washes
or accent glaze, complete the line. The natural surfaces
and palette work well with other ceramic lines as well as
stone. Drier surfaces may need to be sealed on installation.
